Language Labs

Individualized therapy. Shared experiences. Real opportunities to communicate.

The Frogley Language Lab is a highly individualized, sensory-informed small-group therapy program designed to help children develop their communication skills and practise using them in meaningful, everyday interactions.

Every child attending a three-hour Language Lab receives individualized therapy based on their own communication goals. Throughout the Lab, those skills are supported and generalized through literacy, AAC, sensory and movement-based activities, play, shared routines and naturally occurring interactions with peers and adults.

Groups are intentionally small — typically 3–5 children — with group size and staffing determined by the needs of the children attending.

Individualized Therapy Within a Small Group

The group provides a rich therapeutic environment, but each child’s individual needs determine their goals. Children may be working toward completely different goals within the same activity. At other times, children with overlapping goals may come together to work on skills such as conversation, perspective taking, problem-solving, emotional language, cooperative play or self-advocacy. This allows us to provide individualized intervention while also creating opportunities to practise skills with other people in ways that simply aren’t possible in one-to-one therapy.

Creating Opportunities, Not Expectations

We believe social interaction looks different for every child. Throughout the Language Lab, we intentionally create opportunities for children to connect, communicate, play and participate — but interaction is supported, not forced. A child may join a group activity, interact with one peer, communicate with an adult, use AAC, participate alongside others, observe before joining, or choose to take space when they need it.

We create opportunities for connection. Children choose how they participate.

Communication in All Its Forms

Communication is much more than spoken words. Language Labs support children who communicate in different ways, including speech, AAC, gestures and other forms of communication. AAC is modelled and available naturally throughout activities rather than being limited to structured practice. Children have meaningful reasons to request, protest, comment, ask questions, share ideas, advocate for themselves and connect with others throughout their time in the Lab.

Sensory-Informed by Design

Sensory experiences, movement and regulation supports aren’t simply breaks from therapy — they are part of the Language Lab experience. Activities and spaces are designed to give children opportunities to move, explore, regulate and engage in ways that work for them. Literacy, sensory activities, shared interests and carefully planned materials also give children natural reasons to communicate and engage alongside others. Our goal is to create an environment where children can get the support they individually need while still being part of a shared experience.

The Language Lab Difference

Individualized therapy + purposeful group opportunities + real-world generalization.

Children receive targeted support for their own goals while having meaningful opportunities to practise communication, build confidence, explore shared interests and connect with others — all within a small, supportive and neurodiversity-affirming environment.
